That was no cordata at all–it was really pontederiifolia.

After asking around some more on The Planted Tank (external link) and Aquatic Plant Central, a number of thread respondents steered me away from Cryptocoryne cordata as the identity of the plant I discussed in my previous post, and toward C. pontederiifolia. One forum member, illumbomb, even provided a biotope picture (linked here with permission) of some wild plants in Singapore.

These plants look just like my specimens. Illumbomb explained that C. pontederiifolia is in fact not native to Singapore, but found its way there via the aquarium hobby trade.
